Thailand, 25th
July: The Thailand Convention &
Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) announced a change of focus to promote the
country’s exhibition and trade show business to the Greater Mekong Sub-region
(GMS). The five member states, including Myanmar, Lao PDR, Vietnam, Cambodia
and Yunnan Province in southern China, will be targeted by TCEB in the fourth
quarter through to 2013.
TCEB’s first strategy is
to coordinate with the governments of the GMS states in promoting and
supporting international exhibition industry through cooperation and
investment. The second is to attract more businesses from Yunnan to Bangkok and
Chiang Mai through exhibitions and trade shows. The final part of the strategy
involves attracting more business people from all GMS states through promotion
of attending Thai exhibitions.
Mr. Thongchai Sridama,
acting president of TCEB, said in the press release, “We successfully convinced
15 trade shows and exhibitions to organise their shows in Thailand… We hope to
host 30 international upgrade shows, attract seven new exhibitions, host one
bidding show and another 39 audits certified trade exhibitions. We are strongly
confident that by promoting Thailand’s strength that it provides easy access to
GMS will make Thailand stand out from the crowd and put the country one step
ahead arch rivals like Singapore and Malaysia.”
