The Hub fashion show relocates to Shanghai

News this week: The upcoming 5th edition of The HUB, billed as Asia’s premium brand fashion trade show, will relocate from Hong Kong to Shanghai this year. The show will run from 13th to 15th October at Central Studios, to coincide with the Shanghai Fashion Week taking place at the nearby Xintiandi district.

The HUB in Shanghai will showcase around 40 international brands together with a selection of leading Chinese designers. Confirmed exhibitors so far include Boy London, Dienastie from Sweden, Rack & Ruin from the U.K., Swims of Norway, Flying Zachinnis and Juma from the U.S., along with leading Beijing-based designers Zhang Chi and Capitale Nord.

Richard Hobbs, co-founder of The HUB, said, “From the outset just two years ago we knew that at some point we would take The HUB to Mainland China and now is the right time… From today, China will be reducing import tariffs on a number of clothing and footwear categories and we can only see more openness as China makes it easier for brands to import, find buyers and partners.”

Alibaba Group acquires stake in Chinese logistics company

News this week: New York-listed Alibaba Group announced the acquisition of a minority stake in the Shanghai YTO Express (Logistics) Company. Financial details were not disclosed. Both companies plan to cooperate in developing logistics solutions to improve efficiency of China’s logistics industry.

YTO Express will work closely with Alibaba’s logistics subsidiary Cainiao to enhance the industry’s logistics management capabilities as well as international and rural delivery services. Cainiao was founded by Alibaba in 2013 in partnership with a consortium of logistics companies with the aim of building a nationwide logistics platform.

Judy Tong, senior vice president of Alibaba Group and president of Cainiao, said, “The strategic investment in YTO Express reflects our commitment to improving quality and service standards in China’s logistics industry. As a platform, we look forward to working closer with partners who share our vision to develop more efficient logistic infrastructure and solutions that will drive development of China’s logistics sector in order to fully satisfy our customers’ needs.”

Reed’s Shanghai healthcare show spans 290,000 sqm

News this week: Earlier this week, Reed Exhibitions’ joint venture subsidiary, Reed Sinopharm, organised the 2015 Health Industry Summit (tHIS) for the first time at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (NECC) in Shanghai. The mega umbrella show spanned a total exhibition space of 290,000 m2 and drew 210,000 visitors from 150 countries and regions. The first day of tHIS alone reportedly attracted 100,000 visitors.

There were media reports of teething problems at the relatively new NECC venue. Visitors reportedly complained about chaotic organisation ranging from poor signage in the venue and parking lot, hour-long queues for food and beverage, inadequate connections for transportation and insufficient hotel accommodations.

Running from 15th to 18th May, the four-day show featured 6,800 exhibitors showcasing the latest in medical equipment and equipment manufacturing solutions, pharmaceutical formulations and ingredients, manufacturing technologies, natural health and nutrition products. Notable exhibitors included healthcare equipment giants such as GE, Siemens, Philips, Mindray, and United Imaging.

Messe Frankfurt inks deal to cooperate on Meat Expo China

News this week: Messe Frankfurt (Shanghai) has signed a deal with the Circulation Industry Promotion Centre (CIPC) to cooperate on the Meat Expo China event. CIPC, which is a subsidiary of China’s Ministry of Commerce, first organised Meat Expo in the northern city of Harbin in 2002.

In 2014, the exhibition attracted some 84 exhibitors and 6,000 trade visitors. The exhibition has rotated through several Chinese cities including Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, Ningbo and Tianjin. The next edition of Meat Expo China is scheduled to be held on 25th to 27th November at the Shanghai New International Exhibition Centre (SNIEC). Messe Frankfurt plans to pair Meat Expo China with its Food Technology exhibition.

Richard Li, General Manager of Messe Frankfurt (Shanghai) commented, “Realising the endless opportunities existing in the meat industry of China, now is the time for us to engage in the market. The joint operation between CIPC and Messe Frankfurt only stands to be positive. Messe Frankfurt’s Intertextile Shanghai opens at NECC

News this week: This week, Messe Frankfurt opened the relocated Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics – Spring Edition for the first time at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai). Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics – Spring is co-organised by Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd; the Sub-Council of Textile Industry, CCPIT; and the China Textile Information Centre.

A show record of more than 2,600 exhibitors from 24 countries and regions was hosted – up 77% from 2014’s 1,469. The three-day show runs from 18th to 20th March occupying more than 100,000 m2 of gross exhibition space. Messe Frankfurt reported the attendance of around 180 European suppliers at the SalonEurope pavilion, along with other group and regional pavilions representing India, Japan, Korea, Pakistan, Taiwan and debutant Kenya.

Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics – Spring is co-located with three concurrent textile industry events: Yarn Expo Spring, PH Value (previously the China International Knitting Trade Fair) and the China International Fashion Fair (CHIC).

UBM Asia acquires textile printing expo CSTPF

News this week: Earlier this week, UBM Asia announced the acquisition of digital textile printing trade show China (Shanghai) International Printing Industry Expo (CSTPF) from SUNEXPO Exhibition. UBM added that Mr. Gong Changming, general manager of CSTPF, will continue to lead the CSTPF staff and the team will join UBM China’s Shanghai office. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

CSTPF was launched by SUNEXPO in 2009. The 2013 edition of CSTPF attracted 158 exhibitors and occupied gross space of 12,000 m2 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC). More than 15,200 visitors and buyers attended the show, including overseas visitors from Italy, the U.S., U.K., Germany, France, Japan, Korea, Russia, India, Thailand, and Iran.

Jimé Essink, president & CEO of UBM Asia, commented, “We are entering a dynamic new sector through the acquisition of CSTPF. Textile and apparel is one of the largest and most important industries in China. The development of digital printing has accelerated with the drive for innovation and technological transformation in China to upgrade this industry. UBM’s digital signage show draws 500 exhibitors

News this week: One of UBM Asia’s joint venture companies in China, Shanghai UBM Sinoexpo, reportedly attracted some 13,200 trade visitors from over 50 countries and regions to the 2014 edition of Digital Signage, Audio Visual Integration and Equipment Show – up 23% over 2013. Some 500 exhibitors were hosted at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center from the 25th to 27th September.

For the upcoming edition in 2015, the show will be split into a Shanghai edition and Guangzhou edition, to be held in September and November respectively. The Shanghai edition in will be concurrently held with Sign China 2015 and LED Lighting China 2015 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC). More than 500 exhibitors are expected to showcase their latest technologies and solutions.

The Guangzhou edition is expected to attract more than 300 exhibitors to the Poly World Trade Center Expo and span 15,000 m2 of exhibition space. It will be co-located with the Intelligent Education Show and Intelligent Retail Show.

Record 4,900+ exhibitors at Automechanika Shanghai

News this week: Messe Frankfurt’s Automechanika Shanghai 2014 recently concluded a record-breaking edition at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC). The four-day automotive trade show featured a total of 4,906 exhibitors from 39 countries and regions – a 6% increase over last year’s show. Gross exhibition space increased by 5% to 220,000 m2 – reaching the full capacity of the venue’s 17 exhibition halls as well as an additional 10 temporary halls.

Running from 9th to 12th December 2014, Automechanika’s international exhibitors increased by 11% reaching 581. Local exhibitors were up 5% to 4,325. First time group pavilions from Argentina and Pakistan formed part of a total of 17 overseas pavilions which included France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Poland, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, the U.K. and U.S.

Jason Cao, senior general manager of Messe Frankfurt (HK), said, “The increased level of support for Automechanika Shanghai demonstrates the broad and deep influence the show has within the industry. Our strong efforts in promoting the show in emerging markets and extending our product line depth have been rewarded with gaining supporters from Hebei and Jiangsu in China as well as internationally in Turkey, which will have a positive impact on both exhibitors and visitors this year.”

MMI’s bauma China reaches 300,000 m2

News this week: bauma China 2014, the International Trade Fair for Construction Machinery, Building Material Machines, Construction Vehicles and Equipment, recently concluded occupying 300,000 m2 of gross exhibition space (including outdoor space) at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC). This year’s show gathered 3,104 exhibitors from 41 countries and regions – up 14% compared to the 2012 edition. The four-day event was held on 25th to 28th November.

Messe München International (MMI) reported the participation of more than 900 international exhibitors this year. The top five exhibiting countries from outside China were Germany, the U.S., Italy, Korea and Japan. bauma China also hosted nine national pavilions representing: Austria, Finland, Germany, Italy, Korea, Spain, Turkey, the U.K. and U.S. New features this year saw the launch of a business matchmaking system to facilitate contacts between exhibitors and visitors.

The show attracted 191,000 visitors from 149 countries and regions despite a slowing economy. The number of international buyers were up by 12% this year, with the top overseas visitors originating from Russia, followed by Korea, Japan, India, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Indonesia.

SNIEC reiterates stay in Pudong

News this week: The Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC) has released a statement to reiterate its stay in Shanghai’s Pudong New Area following recent rumours about the possibility of the venue’s removal. Earlier in April this year, the venue quashed rumours that it would be closed and redeveloped in the Lingang port district.

Opened in November 2001, the venue is jointly owned by the German Exposition Corp., a joint subsidiary of Deutsche Messe, Messe Düsseldorf and Messe München, and Shanghai Lujiazui Exhibition Development Co., Ltd. SNIEC has recently signed long-term agreements with more than 70% of its customers including a 10-year agreement with the organiser of Furniture China, UBM Sinoexpo.

Automotive show attracts 1,500 exhibitors to NECC Shanghai

News this week: Earlier this week, the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) – NECC Shanghai – successfully concluded its inaugural event attracting some 1,500 exhibitors. Previously held in Beijing, the China International Auto Products Expo (CIAPE) ran from 19th to 21st October 2014.

NECC Shanghai is Asia’s largest purpose-built exhibition centre. CIAPE utilised the venue’s entire north hall covering 106,000 m2 of indoor and outdoor exhibition space in total. CIAPE was divided into 10 product segments covering the likes of finished vehicles, auto parts, tuning products, motorcycles and accessories. According to NECC Shanghai, the three-day show attracted some 130,000 visitors.

NECC Shanghai is situated in Hongqiao district on the west side of Shanghai. The Shanghai Metro opened two exits at the East Xujing station to cater to the travelling public. NECC Shanghai is expected to be fully operational by 2015, and will provide 400,000 m2 of indoor exhibition space over 13 large halls (28,800 m2 each) and three smaller-scaled halls (10,000 m2 each).

Record number of exhibitors joins Messe Düsseldorf’s wire & Tube China

News this week: German trade show organiser, Messe Düsseldorf, reported the participation of 1,461 exhibitors from the wire, cable and tube processing industries at the wire & Tube China in Shanghai. The twin shows took place from 24th to 27th September 2014 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC).

Jointly organised by Messe Düsseldorf (Shanghai) and the Shanghai Electric Cable Research Institute, more than 38,000 trade visitors attended the shows. The organisers reported strong participation from China and other overseas regions including Germany, Austria, France, Italy and North America.

Werner M. Dornscheidt, CEO of Messe Düsseldorf, said, “Messe Düsseldorf, Messe Düsseldorf China and their local partner MC-CCPIT and SECRI are very satisfied with the outcome of the fair. With the rapid growth of wire & Tube China, we managed to not only exceed the visitor and exhibitor results from 2012 but to also strengthen our position as Asia’s leading wire, cable and tube trade fair.”

UBM signs long-term agreement with SNIEC, releases Q3 results

News this week: One of UBM Asia’s joint venture companies in China, Shanghai-based UBM Sinoexpo, has signed a ten-year strategic cooperation agreement with the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC) effective from 2014 to 2023.

UBM reports UBM Sinoexpo’s operations have grown by an average of 10% annually – with exceptionally high growth rates of 23% and 38% recorded in 2007 and 2011 respectively. In 2014, UBM Sinoexpo rented a total of 880,000 m2 of exhibition venue space across China versus total net space sold of 433,451 m2 from trade fairs – for an average utilisation rate of 49.3% during the year.

Separately, UBM plc reported its third quarter interim results ended 30 September 2014. Management expects underlying performance to remain on track for the full year, and highlighted the strong performances of several Greater China-based trade shows. During the quarter, UBM invested US$11.9 million in its events business, which included the acquisition of U.K.-based Seatrade Communications earlier this year.

Toy & baby products fair in Shanghai to open with 1,364 exhibitors

News this week: The 2014 China Toy Expo and China Kids Expo will open next week running from 14th to 16th October, at Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC), covering 120,000 m2 of exhibitions space with 1,364 exhibitors worldwide – up 24% from last year.

Organised by the China Toy & Juvenile Products Association (CTJPA), the co-located fairs are expected to attract more than 80,000 trade visitors from China and overseas. According to media reports, exhibitors from more than 20 key production regions in China will participate along with over 300 international toy and baby products brands from more than 30 countries and regions – that represents a 32% increase over last year.

May Liang, executive vice president of CTJPA, commented, “Although exhibition space has been sold out since early September, we are still receiving many requests and interests to participate both from domestic and international companies. I am also pleased to release that show visitor pre-registrations from mainland China and overseas has increased by 72% and 149% respectively.”

Messe Frankfurt changes textiles shows in China

News this week: International trade fair organiser Messe Frankfurt announced it will relocate the spring edition of Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics and Yarn Expo Spring to a new venue in Shanghai and it will discontinue the Hong Kong edition of Interstoff Asia Essential – effective next year.

The organiser decided to relocate its two Shanghai-based trade shows to the new 400,000 m2 National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai’s Hongqiao district to allow for further growth – where they will run concurrently with the 23rd edition of the China International Fashion Fair (CHIC). CHIC is jointly organised by Beijing-based organiser Fashion Expo and the China World Trade Center.

Addressing the ending of Interstoff Asia Essential in Hong Kong, Messe Frankfurt claims a steady shifting of textile manufacturing and fashion buying offices from Hong Kong to China in recent years influenced its decision to focus all of its efforts in mainland China.

UBM’s Furniture China attracts 2,700 exhibitors

News this week: One of UBM Asia’s largest exhibitions, Furniture China, concluded last week in Shanghai. The 20th edition of the exhibition attracted nearly 2,700 exhibitors including 307 exhibitors from overseas. The event was held at two venues, Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC) and Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Centre.

The 2014 edition of Furniture China resulted in 98,401 “visits” – including more than 21,800 overseas visitors. Visitors came from 158 countries and territories. The overseas visitors number set a new record as it increased by 3.3% compared with the 2013 figure.

Furniture China will face a significant shift in its competitive landscape in 2015 as the new 400,000 m2 venue opens in the Hongqiao district of Shanghai and the China Foreign Trade Group (CFTC), also a part owner of the new venue, will use the mega-venue to organise the first Shanghai edition of the China International Furniture Fair (CIFF) in September next year. The previous 34 September editions of CIFF were held in Guangzhou.

Exhibitors up 20% at UBM China’s children and maternity show

News this week: The 14th edition of Shanghai International Children Baby Maternity Industry Expo (CBME China) drew 1,751 exhibitors to the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC) this year – up 20% compared with last year’s show.

Organised by UBM China (Hangzhou), a subsidiary of UBM Asia, the three-day show ran from 22nd to 24th July 2014 with more than 75,000 trade visitors in attendance. The exhibitors of CBME China showcased products from more than 2,400 brands across 166,680 m2 of gross exhibition space, which covered a range of children baby maternity products ranging from food to clothing and accessories.

Group and international pavilions hosted at this year’s CBME China included those from Australia, Korea, the U.K., U.S., Spain, and Taiwan. CBME China also held a conference programme as part of the show, which featured 18 industry experts as speakers with reported attendance of more than 5,000 visitors.

Messe Frankfurt’s Shanghai textiles show spans 150,000+ sqm

News this week: Messe Frankfurt’s autumn edition of Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles has expanded to cover more than 150,000 m2 of gross exhibition space. Celebrating its 20th edition this year, the show occupied 13 halls at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC) and runs from 27th to 29th August 2014.

Messe Frankfurt expects attendance from trade visitors to reach 40,000 over the three-day show. Some 1,350 exhibitors from 31 countries and regions will showcase their products and services, along with group pavilions from Belgium, Italy, Turkey, India, Korea, Pakistan, Taiwan, as well as first-time participation from Morocco.

The previous edition of Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles autumn edition attracted more than 39,000 buyers and 1,300 exhibitors, which was a new show record. The three-day show is jointly organised with the Sub-Council of Textile Industry, CCPIT and the China Home Textile Association (CHTA).

3,000+ exhibitors at UBM’s health food shows in Shanghai

News this week: UBM Sinoexpo, a joint venture subsidiary of UBM in China, recently concluded six co-located shows occupying all 17 halls at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC). The shows included Healthplex & Nutraceutical China (HNC) and Fi Asia-China, a food ingredients show. UBM Asia reported a total of more than 3,000 exhibitors participated in the shows which were held from 26th to 28th June 2014.

According to UBM, the co-located shows drew more than 63,300 visitors from 131 countries and regions, up 10% compared with 2013. The food-themed shows together featured more than 900 exhibitors.

Health food and nutritionals event, Healthplex & Nutraceutical China (HNC), attracted more than 100 international exhibitors originating from the U.S., U.K., Netherlands, Australia, Japan, Korea, and Brazil showcased their products. Other co-located fairs included Food Ingredients Asia-China (Fi Asia-China, Hi & Ni), food machinery and packaging show Expo FoodTec, pharmaceutical ingredient show CPhI China, and the newly acquired Starch Exhibition.

100+ exhibitors join Shanghai International Aviation & Space Fair

News this week: The 5th edition of Shanghai International Aviation & Space Fair (SAS) recently attracted 102 exhibitors from 15 countries and regions to the Shanghai Exhibition Center. More than 40% of exhibitors originated from overseas, which included those from the U.S., Italy, Canada, Germany, Italy, Slovakia and Taiwan.

The trade fair was spread over a total exhibition space of 10,000 m2 showcasing the latest products and technology on aviation and aerospace. SAS is jointly organised by Deutsche Messe and its subsidiary Hannover Milano Fairs Shanghai, and hosted by the Shanghai Association for Science & Technology, Shanghai Society of Aeronautics and Shanghai Society of Astronautics. The three-day fair ran from 26th to 28th June 2014 and attracted close to 5,800 trade visitors.

James Fu, general manager of Hannover Milano Fairs China commented, “The first time of Hannover Milano Fairs to organise the aviation and space fair concludes with a satisfied result. This three-day exhibition has attracted qualified visitors and demonstrates the high potential of China’s aviation and space industry. Most of the exhibitors from America, Canada, Germany, Italy, Slovakia, Czech and China Taiwan are intended to participate in the next SAS in 2016.”
