Quartz to launch chemical show in SE-Asia


News this week: Quartz Business Media, a U.K.-based event organiser, announced plans to launch Chemspec Asia in Thailand next year. The event will run from 19th to 21st September 2013 at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre (BITEC).

Chemspec was first launched in the U.K. in 1986 and currently has geo-clones in Europe, India, the U.S., Middle East and Latin America. Quartz is expecting the inaugural Asian event to attract 5,000 attendees and featuring exhibitors covering products from the fine and speciality chemicals sectors.

Steve Diprose, vice-president of Quartz, commented, “Our existing events have given us an exciting taste of how Chemspec can deliver vital platforms for interaction between industry professionals across continents and specifically with regard to Asia. There is little doubt Asia is currently the world’s economic success story and with manufacturing performance in the region having been robust in the face of the recent global financial crisis, future growth indicators are extremely positive.”

Pico Thailand’s Q2 revenue drops


News this week: Pico Thailand, the Thai-listed subsidiary of Pico Far East Holdings, announced its results for the quarter ended 30th April 2012. Revenues in the quarter were US$10 million - a decrease of 20% compared with the same quarter last year. The company attributed the decrease of revenue to weakness in its event marketing and exhibition businesses. Net income in the quarter was US$997,000 - represents a drop of 6.4%.

Pico Thailand also reported the results for the six months ended 30th April. Revenues in period were US$23 million – an increase of 11% compared with same period in 2011. According to Pico Thailand’s management, the increase in revenue was due to the revenue recognition of BOI Fair in the first quarter of the year. The company recorded a net profit of US$2.0 million in the period resulting in year-on-year profit growth of 35%. Earnings per share in the period were Baht 0.357 (US$0.0116).

15,000 visitors at inaugural Ecobuild China


News this week: Green building trade show, Ecobuild China, reported the participation of 127 exhibitors and more than 15,000 visitors at its inaugural edition held at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC).

Organised by UBM Sinoexpo, a subsidiary of UBM, Ecobuild China was held from 9th to 12th April this year concurrently with building and construction trade show, Expobuild China 2012. The shows featured a total of 418 exhibitors and 42,600 visitors over 54,000 m2 of exhibition space.

Ecobuild’s portfolio director James Blue said, “Sustainability in the built environment is an issue that has picked up pace over recent years and shows absolutely no sign of slowing its momentum. Ecobuild in the UK has seen phenomenal growth over recent years. We want Ecobuild China to be the annual meeting place for everyone involved in the creation and maintenance of sustainable built environments throughout China and I’m thrilled that the event has been so well received by such a passionate and diverse community.”

The next edition of Ecobuild China will take place from 1st to 3rd April 2013 at the SNIEC.
