New venue in Chiang Mai to be managed privately

News this week: The Thai Government is looking to private companies to manage the new Chiang Mai International Convention and Exhibition Center. The venue is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter this year after several months of delay due to construction problems.

The government reportedly has the budget allocated to hire a professional management company for the venue. The management selection process will be supervised by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).

In a separate development, the TAT announced development plans to merge the Thailand Travel Fair (TTF) and the Thailand Travel Mart (TTM Plus). The resulting new event, World Tourism Expo, is expected to launch in 2014 at IMPACT.
