News this week: Vinexpo Asia-Pacific, opened
at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) last week - with a
record 1,050 exhibitors from 28 countries.
The three-day trade show ran from 29th to 31st
May, and attracted over 15,000 visitors this year - compared with 12,617 in
2010. The organiser of the show estimated more than 50% of visitors were from
overseas, with Asian visitors from China, Malaysia, Japan, Taiwan and Thailand
seeing strong growth.
Vinexpo’s majority shareholder is the Bordeaux Chamber of
Commerce and Industry (CCIB) along with 44 large wine and spirits companies.
Robert Beynat, chief executive of Vinexpo, stated, “The
results from our annual IWSR survey were indicative of the growth of the
Asia-Pacific market. Even during our lead-up promotional campaign in Tokyo,
Seoul, Shanghai, Beijing, Taipei and Hong Kong, I could already sense that the
knowledge and sophistication of the markets had grown tremendously from two
years ago. The promise of the Chinese market and the Asian market continues to
be very high. The growth is still there.”
