News this week: The Center for Exhibition Industry
Research (CEIR) has released its results on the performance of the U.S.
exhibition industry in the first quarter of 2013. According to CEIR, the
overall U.S. exhibition industry grew by 1.3% in the quarter, compared with the
same quarter last year. The real GDP in the same period was up by 1.8%.
Three of the four metrics tracked by CEIR (net square feet
sold, number of exhibitors and revenues) increased in the first quarter of
2013. The decline of 0.2% recorded in the number of attendees was attributed to
the weakness of participation from government employees. The net square feet
sold recorded the biggest increase of 2.3%, which was followed by a 2.2%
increase in the number of exhibitors, while revenues in the quarter grew by
1.0%.
