UBM Asia announces two senior appointments

News this week: UBM Asia announced yesterday that it has appointed Wolfram Diener as Senior Vice President in the company, effective 1st November 2011. UBM Asia also announced at the same time that Zhang Xue Qiang will be appointed Managing Director of Shanghai UBM Sinoexpo International Exhibition Co Ltd effective 9th September 2011.

Diener will be based in Hong Kong and report to Jimé Essink, president and CEO of UBM Asia. Diener will focus on the UBM’s business in Shanghai, Beijing and Hangzhou. He will also lead UBM Asia’s jewellery portfolio including exhibitions, prints titles and online portal. Diener is currently Vice President, Convention & Exhibitions at The Venetian in Macau.


Zhang is a 25-year veteran of the China exhibitions industry, and he will succeed Wang Ming Liang. Wang will be a board director in UBM Sinoexpo. UBM Sinoexpo, established in 1998, is a joint venture between UBM Asia and Shanghai Sinoexpo International Exhibition Limited (founded in 1992 by Wang). The company’s flagship event is Furniture China, Asia’s largest international furniture fair and biggest exhibition in Shanghai. Zhang joined Shanghai Sinoexpo in 1997 as deputy general manager for operations. He left the company in 2005 and has been with both Reed Huayin and VNU Exhibitions Asia in the past six years.
