News this week: Earlier this week, the Sydney
Showground announced expansion plans that will see the construction of a
new exhibition pavilion in the coming months. The venue recently completed a US$66
million infrastructure upgrade at the Sydney Showground Stadium last year.
The latest expansion will be funded by the Royal Agricultural Society
(RAS) Board, and will provide around 8,500 m2 of additional
exhibition space. According to Sydney Showground, space at the venue will total
around 11,000 m2 at the scheduled completion date of early 2014.
Peter Thorpe, general manager of Sydney Showground, said, “It’s
no news to anyone that demand for space will be at a premium from the end of
2013. We need to ensure that our planning is robust and future focussed and
that our infrastructure is therefore capable of taking on any challenge that
organisers and promoters throw at us.”
