UBM acquires 70% stake in Index Fairs

News this week: UBM plc has acquired a 70% stake in Index Furniture Private Limited on behalf of its subsidiary, UBM Asia. Index Furniture Private Limited organises annual furniture and interiors exhibitions, named The Index Fairs. The financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

The Index Fairs, held in Mumbai in September and Bengaluru in February, recently added a Hyderabad show in December. The Mumbai show has been held for more than two decades. The 2010 edition reportedly featured 210 exhibitors and more than 30,000 visitors covering 8,000 m2. The Bengaluru show, launched in 2008, featured almost 10,000 visitors and 70 exhibitors occupying over 2,000 m2 of net space.

Index Fairs posted revenues of US$1.5 million in 2010. Index Furniture Private Limited employs 12 staff and will be integrated into UBM India. The founder-owners, Mr. Liyakat Ali Khan and Mrs. Sylvia Khan will remain with the business.
