News this week: The Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre (BITEC) plans to spend US$13 million on major renovations to improve the venue in 2012. Construction will start after the completion of a skywalk linking BITEC to a new, nearby elevated train station which is part of a project to extend Bangkok’s BTS train system.
According to TTGAsia, the skywalk is near completion and the new BTS extension is scheduled to be in service by August. BITEC’s management expects the opening of the new BTS extension to help to attract more exhibitions to the venue. Management anticipates it will host 50 events next year – up from 40 events last year.
