Japanese exhibition update

News this week: Although the damage caused by the March earthquake and subsequent tsunami and nuclear crisis continues to impact the Japanese events business, the industry is attempting to get back on its feet.

Finetech Japan, which incorporated Photonix and Filmtech Japan, was held from 13th to 15th April at Tokyo Big Sight. The exhibition attracted 700 exhibitors and more than 55,000 visitors. Although visitor numbers this year were reportedly down between 10% and 15% compared to last year, the organiser, Reed Exhibitions, still views this as an encouraging set of results.

The disaster has also prompted the International Monetary Fund to downgrade its economic growth forecast for the country from 1.6% to 1.4% in 2011 and 2.1% in 2012.
