News this week: Brisbane’s Royal National Agricultural (RNA) Showground will undergo a major redevelopment project to build a 22,000 m2 convention and exhibition centre costing an estimated US$62 million. The new facility will be developed from an existing industrial pavilion at the RNA showground. Construction of the convention and exhibition centre will reportedly be completed by 2012. The project is to be funded through a loan from the Queensland Treasury Corporation.
The entire regeneration project has a budget of US$3 billion with construction set to begin this month. The 15-year building plan will cover the redevelopment of 22 hectares including residential, commercial and retail buildings as well as a new hotel. Queensland premier Anna Bligh estimates the project will create more than 2,000 jobs and revenues of US$314 million per year for the state.
