News this week: Following the announcement of the opening of the US$65 million, 380 room, Novotel Bangkok IMPACT Hotel in February, IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Centre is reportedly developing a second on-site hotel, a 420-room ibis property, adjacent to the existing one. IMPACT is aiming to reach 1,000 rooms at the venue by 2016 catering to a wide range of visitors. The second hotel is also expected to cost approximately US$65 million with an 18-month construction schedule beginning at the end of 2011.
The third property has been identified as a 200-room upper-four-star hotel that will be developed after the opening of ibis. IMPACT management is expecting the first hotel, the Novotel, to reach 55% occupancy by the end of its first full year of operations, noting that the majority of guests consist of organisers and visitors from MICE events at IMPACT.
