UBM to hold record-breaking June jewellery and gem fair

News this week: UBM Asia’s June Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair (June Fair) will be held this year on 25th to 28th June at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). The organiser reports 2,233 exhibitors will set a new show record to occupy more than 70,000 m2 of exhibition space.

This year’s June Fair will feature 16 themed pavilions, including the debut of the Stainless Steel Jewellery Pavilion, Fashion Jewellery Pavilion and Designer Arena. The Stainless Steel Jewellery Pavilion and Fashion Jewellery Pavilion will feature 20 stainless steel jewellery exhibitors and 90 fashion jewellery exhibitors respectively.

The June Fair is also supported by Mineral and Gem Asia (6MG), which will be held concurrently at the AsiaWorld-Expo (AWE) from 27th to 30th June. Products showcased at 6MG focuses on rough gemstones and semi-precious stones. The organiser will offer a free shuttle bus service to transport registered exhibitors and visitors between the venues.

Visitors up 28% at UBM’s Concrete Show India

News this week: UBM India, a subsidiary of UBM Asia, recently concluded the 2015 edition of Concrete Show India featuring more than 150 exhibitors from 10 countries and regions. The three-day show was held at the Bombay Convention and Exhibition Centre (BCEC) in Mumbai from 7th to 9th May 2015.

UBM reported attendance of 5,000 trade visitors – an increase of more than 28% over the previous edition. Overseas visitors representing the infrastructure and construction industry included those originating from China, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Taiwan, the Netherlands and U.S. Highlights of this edition of Concrete Show India included an Innovation Corner and Interactive Zone.

Mr. Surya Prakash, president of the Association of Consulting Civil Engineers (India), said, “Cement and concrete industry in India is poised for a definite growth. The recent five year plan emphasize more on infrastructure as it is the basic requirement for development of any sector. India is the third largest country in the world with a massive production of 280 million tonnes and this will go to 800 million tonnes in next few years.”

UBM Asia expands health & beauty portfolio to Vietnam

News this week: UBM Asia, a subsidiary of UBM plc, will expand its health and beauty event portfolio to Vietnam with the launch of the new Vietbeauty show in 2016. The inaugural edition of Vietbeauty will be held from 18th to 20th August 2016 at Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC) in Ho Chi Minh City.

The event will be supported by the Ho Chi Minh City Cosmetics Association, the Vietnam Essential Oils, Aromatherapy and Cosmetics Association, and the Ho Chi Minh City Society of Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery. Exhibitor product categories will include cosmetics, skincare, hair care, nail care, spa and wellness products, beauty salons and aesthetic equipment and supplies. UBM expects to host more than 150 international suppliers at the event.

M. Gandhi, managing director of UBM Asia (ASEAN Business), said, “Given the opportunities arising from the country’s current economic growth, we chose to launch Vietbeauty to deliver a higher quality and level of business for buyers and manufacturers beyond what they have ever experienced before… Moreover, the event expects to have the strong participation of leading brands providing full packaging, labelling and ingredient sourcing for beauty manufacturers as well as seminars and events to improve the aesthetician skills for locals.”

UBM Asia’s Shenzhen Fair to feature 380+ exhibitors

News this week: The 13th edition of China International Gold, Jewellery & Gem Fair – Shenzhen (Shenzhen Fair) will open at Shenzhen Convention & Exhibition Center (SZCEC) next week. Organised by UBM Asia, the three-day fair will run from 20th to 22nd April.

The Shenzhen Fair will showcase more than 380 exhibitors from 12 countries and regions, covering an exhibition space of 22,000 m2. The fair features various types of jewellery, raw materials, related tools and equipment, including gold, platinum, silver jewellery, pearl, diamond, gemset, jadeite jewellery, packaging & display, and other related products & services.

Specialised pavilions this year include the China Gold Association pavilion, the Baolin pavilion, the Korea pavilion, and the Designer pavilion. Other highlights of the show will include the China Jewellery Market Summit and new products launched at the Jewellery Parade.

470+ exhibitors at UBM’s Indonesian furniture show

News this week: Reportedly Indonesia’s largest furniture trade show, Indonesia International Furniture Expo (IFEX) 2015, ran for four days from 12th to 15th March at Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo). Organised by PT Dyandra UBM International, a joint venture company of UBM Asia and Dyandra, IFEX utilised all halls at JIExpo as well as several large temporary halls.

More than 470 exhibitors showcased a wide range of contemporary and traditional furniture products, with a special focus on wooden and rattan furniture products. Highlighting the importance of the furniture industry and furniture exports for the country’s economy, the show was opened by Indonesia’s President, Mr. Joko Widodo. The organiser expected to attract around 8,000 trade buyers.

Ernst K. Remboen, president director of PT Dyandra UBM International, commented, “The furniture industry in Indonesia is enjoying very robust growth on the back of strong exports and surging domestic demand. The nation has abundant supplies of sustainable raw materials such as wood, rattan, bamboo and natural textiles, as well as a highly skilled labour force and extensive manufacturing capacity. The size of IFEX is expanding each year, and I expect that it will soon become one of the key events in the global calendar of furniture exhibitions.”

MIFF features 500-plus exhibitors

News this week: Last week, UBM Malaysia, a subsidiary of UBM Asia, held the Malaysian International Furniture Fair (MIFF) from 3rd to 6th March 2015 over two venues – the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) and Matrade Exhibition and Convention Centre (MECC).

According to UBM, the five-day fair featured more than 500 exhibitors from 15 countries and regions, of which 10% were first-time exhibitors. MIFF covered 80,000 m2 of exhibition space with exhibitor product categories including furniture of dinning, bedroom, living room, office, children, occasional, and also furniture fittings and hardware.

Dato’ Dr. Tan Chin Huat, chairman of MIFF, said, “The overall response reflects the importance of MIFF as a highly effective trade platform in the international market place, one that stands out for value, quality, variety and world class show experience. Our goal is always to continue and develop MIFF to benefit exhibitors and buyers alike.”

UBM Asia partners with Interexpo in Malaysia

News this week: UBM Asia has reached a partnership agreement with Malaysian organiser, Interexpo (M) Sdn Bhd, to organise the annual Beauty Expo beginning with this year’s event. According to UBM, key members of the Beauty Expo team will join UBM Malaysia to further develop the show.

Mak Weng Kit, owner and CEO of Interexpo and a 30-year veteran of the exhibition industry in Malaysia, developed the Beauty Expo more than 15 years ago. This partnership adds to UBM’s growing portfolio of beauty, cosmetics and wellness events across Asia, which already includes PhilBeauty in the Philippines, ASEANBeauty in Thailand, Diet & Beauty in Japan and Hong Kong’s Cosmoprof Asia.

Commenting on the partnership, Mak said, “Before becoming an entrepreneur I used to work for UBM. So it feels like something of a homecoming to be once again working with the company. I am excited about the potential to further grow Beauty Expo in partnership with UBM.”

UBM Asia acquires textile printing expo CSTPF

News this week: Earlier this week, UBM Asia announced the acquisition of digital textile printing trade show China (Shanghai) International Printing Industry Expo (CSTPF) from SUNEXPO Exhibition. UBM added that Mr. Gong Changming, general manager of CSTPF, will continue to lead the CSTPF staff and the team will join UBM China’s Shanghai office. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

CSTPF was launched by SUNEXPO in 2009. The 2013 edition of CSTPF attracted 158 exhibitors and occupied gross space of 12,000 m2 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC). More than 15,200 visitors and buyers attended the show, including overseas visitors from Italy, the U.S., U.K., Germany, France, Japan, Korea, Russia, India, Thailand, and Iran.

Jimé Essink, president & CEO of UBM Asia, commented, “We are entering a dynamic new sector through the acquisition of CSTPF. Textile and apparel is one of the largest and most important industries in China. The development of digital printing has accelerated with the drive for innovation and technological transformation in China to upgrade this industry. UBM launches new Indian event, concludes 2nd Kolkata jewellery show

News this week: Last week, UBM India announced the launch of Personal Care India Expo 2015, a new trade show focusing on personal care, cosmetic and home care ingredients, and the machinery and packaging industries. The three-day show will take place at New Delhi’s Pragati Maidan from 19th to 21st August.

UBM expects the inaugural show to attract around 150 exhibitors and 4,000 participants from around the world. Personal Care India Expo is supported by various industry bodies including the Chemexcil – Basic Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals and Cosmetics Export Promotion Council, Indian Home and Personal Care Industry Association (IHPCIA), Fragrances and Flavours Association of India (FAFAI), EU Chamber of Commerce, Oil Technologists’ Association of India (OTAI), and the All India Cosmetic Manufacturers' Association (AICMA).

Separately, UBM India concluded the second edition of Kolkata Jewellery & Gem Fair (KJGF ‘15) hosting more than 200 exhibitors and 6,000 trade visitors. KJGF ’15 was held at the Milan Mela Exhibition Complex from 10th to 12th January, and hosted in association with the Calcutta Gems & Jewellery Association.

UBM prepares for formation of AEC

News this week: International exhibition organiser, UBM Plc, is confident that the integration of ASEAN markets through the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) will make Southeast Asia an important destination for exhibitions. The company reiterated its focus on Asia as an important revenue generator particularly in its major markets of Japan, China, India and the ASEAN region.

In an interview with the Bangkok Post, UBM’s management revealed the ASEAN exhibition market is estimated to grow on average by 10% annually in terms of the number of events and trade visitors. The organiser has realigned its major ASEAN operations to upgrade local events to serve on a regional level, and has plans to bring a new international exhibition to Thailand on an annual basis.

Jimé Essink, president and chief executive of UMB Asia, commented, “Thailand is a key part of UBM in this region thanks to its strategic location as a hub of ASEAN. Its strengths are good transport infrastructure, world-class exhibition venues and hotels, value-for-money tourism products and government support. The key challenge for Thailand is to remain politically stable, as it's important to sustain the exhibition industry in the long term.”

UBM’s Singapore jewellery expo visitors up 10%

News this week: UBM Asia recently released the results of the second edition of their Singapore Jewellery & Gem Fair. The four-day event was held in late October at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre. The exhibition attracted 161 exhibitors from 21 countries and over 9,600 trade visitors. Visitor numbers were up 10% compared with the 2013 figures. The exhibition featured pavilions from Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Thailand and the U.S.

UBM Asia has positioned the Singapore exhibition as a “professional trading platform for international jewellers to build their brand recognition and introduce their products in Southeast Asia.” The event also featured a Singapore Jewellery Design Awards which was presented to five young jewellery designers.

The Singapore Jewellery & Gem Fair 2015 will be held from 22nd to 25th October 2015 at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre.

UBM Asia launches another Indian jewellery event

News this week: UBM Asia has announced the results of its inaugural Gujarat Jewellery and Gem Fair 2014 (GJGF). Held in late November at the Gujarat University Convention and Exhibition Centre, the exhibition was organised in cooperation with the Gem & Jewellery Trade Council of India (GJTCI).

The exhibition featured nearly 130 exhibitors from all 29 Indian states. Visitors and exhibiors covered a wide range of industry players: jewellery wholesalers, retailers, exporters, importers, manufacturers, diamond and gemstone suppliers and government trade organisations.

UBM’s managing director in India, Joji George, commented, “India is one of the world's largest and fastest growing gem and jewellery markets and Gujarat accounts for almost 80% of the diamonds processed in India; it is a business advantage that Gujarat has over other regions. UBM India is proud to partner with GJTCI to host our maiden show in Gujarat which will not only strengthen our dominance in the jewellery sector but also add to our India footprint with successful established shows in Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata.”

Cosmoprof Asia attracts 60,000 visitors

News this week: UBM Asia’s Cosmoprof Asia event was held in Hong Kong last week and it attracted more than 60,000 visitors – including 64% international visitors. The more than 38,000 visitors came from more than 100 countries. The top five visitor markets were China, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Japan.

The exhibition also featured 22 major pavilions from a variety of markets worldwide. Cosmoprof Asia posted a new record in terms of exhibitors with a total of 2,362 exhibitors. That is a 9% increase compared with 2013. In terms of space sold, Cosmoprof Asia covered over 81,500 m2 – a 7% increase compared with the 2013 edition of the event. The event also included an educational seminar featuring a series of 13 presentations over three days. The seminar attracted approximately 775 delegates.

Cosmoprof Asia, which is organised by a joint venture owned by UBM Asia and BolognaFiere Group, will next take place in Hong Kong on 11th to 13th November, 2015.

UBM Asia to hold 2nd edition of INTERMACH and SUBCON Myanmar

News this week: UBM Asia (Thailand) is set to hold the second edition of INTERMACH Myanmar and SUBCON Myanmar from 29th to 31st October 2014 at the Tatmadaw Exhibition Hall in Yangon. The trade shows will showcase the latest business tools and high-tech machinery products.

According to UBM, the co-located events will feature more than 50 leading industrial part-makers from Thailand, and some 500 pieces of machinery from more than 150 exhibiting companies originating from 16 countries and regions. The shows will host four group pavilions consisting of exhibitors from Japan, Thailand, China and Taiwan.

Mr M Gandhi, managing director (ASEAN Business) of UBM Asia, said, “After the outstanding success of INTERMACH and SUBCON in Thailand, ASEAN's largest international industrial machinery and subcontracting exhibition, INTERMACH Myanmar and SUBCON Myanmar 2014 is set to follow the same road to success. The show’s inaugural event in 2013 proved to be the perfect place for businesses to source new technology and inspect industrial machinery.”

UBM Asia to hold Thai Water in 2015

News this week: UBM Asia (Thailand), a subsidiary of UBM Asia, has announced plans for the third edition of Thai Water in 2015. The biennial trade show focuses on the water and waste water treatment industry and will be held from 10th to 13th June at the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC). Thai Water is supported by the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB).

UBM expects Thai Water to attract exhibitors representing 1,500 brands from 25 countries and regions, and spread over 5,000 m2 of gross exhibition space. The event will feature group pavilions from Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore and Germany. Thai Water will be held concurrently with Pumps & Valves Asia and will feature an extensive seminar programme.

Mr Sanchai Noombunnam, group director at UBM Asia (Thailand), said, “Thailand’s industrial sector has always been growing, but as more organisations have seen trade opportunities in the ASEAN region we are faced with new challenges especially regarding water. By organising Thai Water 2015, our goal is to increase water management efficiency in both industrial and household sectors. We will offer a comprehensive range of technologies that provide answers to intelligent water management across the board.”

UBM to launch Singapore edition of maternity show

News this week: UBM China has announced the launch of the new Singapore Children, Babies and Maternity industry Expo (CBME South East Asia) in 2015. The inaugural edition will take place from 16th to 18th April at Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre.

UBM estimates around 4,000 m2 of gross exhibition space will be used to host approximately 200 brands and 3,000 visitors at the first edition of CBME South East Asia. The CBME series includes editions organised in Istanbul, Mumbai, Sao Paulo and Shanghai. As part of the launch campaign, UBM has organised a CBME road show for the first time which will begin at the Mumbai CBME, running from 9th to 11th April. The road show will conclude at the closing of CBME South East Asia in Singapore.

CBME’s general manager, Athena Gong, said, “CBME exhibitors have been looking into extending their reach in Asia, beyond China and India. The launch of CBME South East Asia is in response to the market demand. Singapore, with its efficient transport system and world-class infrastructure is an ideal venue for South East Asia. Its strategic location will be an easy access for Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Burma (Myanmar).”

UBM’s Furniture China attracts 2,700 exhibitors

News this week: One of UBM Asia’s largest exhibitions, Furniture China, concluded last week in Shanghai. The 20th edition of the exhibition attracted nearly 2,700 exhibitors including 307 exhibitors from overseas. The event was held at two venues, Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC) and Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Centre.

The 2014 edition of Furniture China resulted in 98,401 “visits” – including more than 21,800 overseas visitors. Visitors came from 158 countries and territories. The overseas visitors number set a new record as it increased by 3.3% compared with the 2013 figure.

Furniture China will face a significant shift in its competitive landscape in 2015 as the new 400,000 m2 venue opens in the Hongqiao district of Shanghai and the China Foreign Trade Group (CFTC), also a part owner of the new venue, will use the mega-venue to organise the first Shanghai edition of the China International Furniture Fair (CIFF) in September next year. The previous 34 September editions of CIFF were held in Guangzhou.

UBM’s September jewellery fair opens with record exhibitor numbers

News this week: Earlier this week, UBM Asia, a subsidiary of UBM plc, opened its 32nd edition of September Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair with a record number of participating exhibitors. Nearly 3,700 exhibitors from 49 countries and regions will showcase their products making it the largest in the fair’s history.

The fair is being held at the two main venues in Hong Kong. Jewellery raw materials, equipment and packaging are at AsiaWorld-Expo (AWE) from 15th to 19th September, while finished jewellery are hosted at Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) from 17th to 21st September. UBM released an updated mobile app for the show featuring the latest information for buyers to plan their visit more efficiently.

The fair covers an exhibition space of more than 135,000 m2 at the two venues. Among the 3,700 exhibitors, more than 60 are new to the fair. A total of 22 group pavilions are exhibiting at this edition from Belgium, Brazil, China, Columbia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Poland, Singapore, Spain, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, the United States, and the International Colored Gemstone Association (ICA). The organiser expects more than 52,000 buyers to attend the seven-day fair.

Exhibitors up 20% at UBM China’s children and maternity show

News this week: The 14th edition of Shanghai International Children Baby Maternity Industry Expo (CBME China) drew 1,751 exhibitors to the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC) this year – up 20% compared with last year’s show.

Organised by UBM China (Hangzhou), a subsidiary of UBM Asia, the three-day show ran from 22nd to 24th July 2014 with more than 75,000 trade visitors in attendance. The exhibitors of CBME China showcased products from more than 2,400 brands across 166,680 m2 of gross exhibition space, which covered a range of children baby maternity products ranging from food to clothing and accessories.

Group and international pavilions hosted at this year’s CBME China included those from Australia, Korea, the U.K., U.S., Spain, and Taiwan. CBME China also held a conference programme as part of the show, which featured 18 industry experts as speakers with reported attendance of more than 5,000 visitors.

Close to 1,900 exhibitors join UBM’s June Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair

News this week: UBM Asia’s June Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair covered more than 70,000 m2 of gross exhibition space at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) this year. The four-day trade show was held from 19th to 22nd June, and featured 1,894 exhibitors from 40 countries and regions.

According to UBM Asia, some 26,100 visitors from 117 countries and regions were in attendance. Around 64% of visitors originated from overseas with the largest participation recorded from mainland China (9,362), India (1,037), Taiwan (805), the Philippines (624), Thailand (608), Japan (511), the U.S. (440), Korea (421), Indonesia (291) and Australia (274).

Celine Lau, director of Jewellery Fairs of UBM Asia, commented, “The growth in exhibition space is a milestone of the June Fair. The roughly 10% growth in the number of visitors from Asia compared to last year’s edition shows that the region continues to be the engine of growth for the luxury jewellery market. The growth in the number of visitors from mainland China and India remained at double-digits this year.”
