Travel Exhibitions, organiser of the China
Incentive, Business Travel & Meetings Exhibition (CIBTM), has extended
its partnership agreement with the Beijing City Government for an additional
four years – with the aim of growing the show by 10% annually.
According to the
Beijing’s Tourism Department, a US$3.2 million fund was recently set-up to
encourage the private sector to bring more international conventions to the
city. In 2011, meetings and exhibition revenues in Beijing reached US$3.4
billion – an increase of 22% over 2010. While 286,000 meetings were hosted in
Beijing and incentive tourists rose 40% reportedly reaching 300,000.
Additionally, a new
alliance was launched at CIBTM. Eight cities, including Beijing, Shanghai,
Tianjin, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Kunming, Sanya and Xi’an, agreed to come together
to form the China MICE Cities Alliance.
