News this week: The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) in Macau announced the territory’s MICE statistics for the second quarter of 2011. In the quarter, 258 MICE events were held in Macau, down from 365 events in the second quarter of 2010. That is a 29% decrease.
Of the 258 events, 248 were meetings, while 10 were exhibitions. The number of events dropped 30% from 352 recorded last year. Exhibitions posted a year-on-year decrease of 23% from 13 in the same quarter in 2010. A total of 119,284 participants attended the Macau’s MICE events in the quarter, down 9.0% from 131,123 in 2010.
The DSEC also reported MICE statistics for the first half of 2011. There were 535 MICE events held during the first half, a year-on-year decrease of 23% compared with the 696 events last year. Despite the drop in the number of events, the number of participants rose by 12% to 247,663, up from 220,861 in the first half of 2010.
