News this week: The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) announced a US$67,000 sponsorship fund has been set-up to assist MICE venues applying for International Organization for Standardization (ISO) green certification within this year as well as in 2012.
The bureau is working with the Thai Industrial Standards institute to launch an Energy Management Certification (ISO 50001) that would improve the standard of MICE venues in terms of their environmental impact.
Akapol Surasuchart, president of TCEB, commented that TCEB will cover 70% of the consultancy fee involved for each venue that applies, which amounts to approximately US$13,000. At present, the IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Center in Bangkok will reportedly be the first venue in Thailand to receive the green standard certification.
Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC) and the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre (BITEC) are also reportedly in the process of applying for certification. The TCEB president also added that a green certification programme will be introduced for professional convention organisers and destination management companies at a later date.
